Webelos is split into 2 years.  The first year we will focus on earning the Webelos Badge and the second year we will focus on the Arrow of Light Award and Crossover.

As Webelos the boys will begin to earn Activity Badges in place of the Achievements that they have earned in the earlier years in Cub Scouts.  They will also be taking on more responsibility toward earning the Badges.  The majority of the Badges will be earned as a den activity but some can and will be earned on their own.  At times, they will need help on the badge at other times they may only need supervision.

The book outlines 20 activity badges.  There are 5 different groups of badges with 4 different badges in each.  Webelos will begin to pick the badges they wish to earn.  This is very similar to the way Boy Scouts work.  Each badge may take 2-3 weeks to complete.

The Webelos Badge is earned by completing three Activity Badges.  Two of them are specified by BSA.  The other one will be decided by the boys in the den meetings.  The goal is for the boys to earn the Webelos badge by Blue & Gold 2011.  After that we will begin to work on the Arrow of Light.  The Arrow of Light is earned by completing 8 activity badges.  Three of which will be completed by earning the Webelos Badge.  Two of the remaining five are specified by the BSA.

The Arrow of Light is the highest award that a Cub Scout can earn and is the only Cub Scout award that moves up with the boy.  They can wear the Arrow of Light on their uniform as long as they are in scouting, including as leaders when they become adults.  The Crossover Ceremony will be during the Blue & Gold 2012 which means the Arrow of Light must be earned by then.

During their time as Webelos the boys will be learning what is required to become Boy Scouts.  This will include a meeting with one of the Boy Scout leaders and Scouts from Troop 93 during a den meeting next year.  It is also highly recommended that the boys and one of their parents attend a Boy Scout meeting next year.
